The Garden Gnomes

About The Garden Gnomes

Down at the Polasek gardens the sculptures stand around in the greenery all year as though they each have somewhere to be, and there is something of that in a well-kept yard too, small figures of order holding their posts among the plants. The Garden Gnomes look after Winter Park lawns and beds in spring, when everything is trying to grow at once and a yard can get away from you inside a fortnight. A visit covers mowing at an even height, trimming the edges the deck leaves behind, restoring the border along walks and drives, and blowing the clippings clear. Beds are weeded and their lines put back, shrubs are shaped, and the trimmings are carried off. Winter Park, Maitland and the nearby Orlando streets make up the rounds.
