From June to October the thunderheads build out west over the Everglades and come for Wellington on a schedule you can almost set a watch by. Verdant Landscaping works the front half of those days, because grass in a wet Palm Beach County summer can put on a week of growth in three afternoons. The mower goes through thick, the edger reopens the lines the rain has blurred, and the beds get pulled back to a shape you can see from the road. Then the walks are cleared and the truck is loaded, usually with the sky already going bruise-colored to the west. A yard that stays sharp all through the rainy months is not luck; it is showing up, week after week, before the storm does.
