Kingsley Lake sits east of town, perfectly round and blue enough to look like it was set there on purpose, and half of Starke's summer happens somewhere near its water. Cuttin' Grass & Taking Names spends those long hot days on lawns instead, starting before the heat turns mean and working through mowing, edging and string trimming until everything is blown clean. Grass in July does not wait for anybody, so the route runs steady and the names get checked off one at a time. Overgrown corners, fence lines and the strip nobody else bothers with are the parts worth doing right. Come evening the yards are squared away, and the lake keeps whatever is left of the light.
