Late in the day the river bends past Sandpiper Bay and the light goes gold across every lawn on that side of Port St. Lucie. Pico's Lawn and Maintenance is often still out in it, finishing the last stops of a route — a final pass of the mower, the trimmer along a fence, the blower clearing the walk while the shadows stretch. Grass grows hard here from May onward, and keeping ahead of it takes a schedule and a willingness to be the last truck on the street. Hedges get shaped, borders get cut back to a clean line, and nothing is left lying on the pavers. The reward comes at dusk, when a yard looks like somebody loves it and the whole street borrows a little of that.
