Black Diamond Lawn

About Black Diamond Lawn

There is a moment just before dusk when the low sun rakes across a freshly mown yard and the pattern jumps out of it, light stripe, dark stripe, clean as a ruled page. Black Diamond Lawn works for that moment. Over toward Bayview Park and the streets that back onto the bayou, the cut goes down in deliberate passes, the edge is held tight to the concrete, the trimming is finished before anything gets blown. St. Augustine takes a pattern well when it is cut at the right height and not scalped, which is a discipline more than a trick. Long after the truck is gone, the lawn is still showing its lines.
