About Evans & Son Sod Installations LLC

The ground around Palatka is sand and river silt, the same soil the fern houses and potato fields of East Palatka have worked for generations of growing seasons. Evans & Son Sod Installations LLC reads that ground for a living — grading a bare yard smooth, laying pallets of sod tight seam to seam, watering it in before the afternoon sun climbs. There is a particular hour, just after sunrise, when the cut rolls are still cool and heavy and a dirt lot is about to become a lawn. Afterward they keep it going: mowing, edging and trimming as the roots take hold and the seams disappear. A month later you cannot tell where one piece ended and the next began, and that is the whole point.
