The first real cut of the year in Pace usually lands in March, oak catkins everywhere, the grass suddenly two inches taller than it was on Friday. Perez-Services starts the season there and stays with it — weekly and biweekly mowing, edging along drives and sidewalks, string trimming, hedge and shrub trimming, and blowing the walks and porches clear. From then until cool air comes down the Panhandle in November, it is a straight rotation, yard after yard. Pace, Pea Ridge, Milton and Gulf Breeze make up the route. The pleasure is in the rhythm: same day, same yards, nothing left growing wild.
