About JARDINERO SANTOS LOPEZ

First light on Southwest Eighth Street out past the far edge of town, and the trailers are already rolling while the pavement is still cool. JARDINERO SANTOS LOPEZ works those western Miami blocks through the morning — lawns mowed and edged, palms cleaned of their skirts, hedges cut to a line, beds weeded, cuttings gathered up and carried off. By the time the heat sets in around midday, half the route is behind him and the finished yards are already holding their shape for the week. The lots out here sit close together, so the work is done as if the neighbors are watching, because they are. Sweetwater, Tamiami and the surrounding Miami areas are on the round.
