After a night of rain the 1920s streets of Morningside steam a little at sunrise, and every lawn on them has grown half an inch in the dark. The Green Standard meets that head-on — mowing on a cycle the wet season can't outrun, edging the old sidewalks back to their true line, trimming shrubs off the porch rails and the mailbox posts. The houses here have long front lawns and generous canopy, so cut height and cleanup both get thought about rather than assumed. Nothing is finished until the walk and drive are clear and the clippings are gone. A yard held to that line in August is the same yard in February.
