About Matthew Giampietro Garden Design Studio

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a small grid of cottages and courtyards set a hundred yards from a living reef, and its gardens are correspondingly intimate — a plumeria, a run of sea grape, a patch of lawn the size of a room. Matthew Giampietro Garden Design Studio treats those spaces as compositions: planting design, bed layout, hedge and shrub shaping, and lawn care that holds the green floor of the garden even and quiet beneath everything else. Evening is the hour to judge the work here, when the light softens and the town keeps itself dark for the turtles. A garden this close to the ocean has to earn its ease, and the pleasure is watching a design settle into place across a season. Small ground, carefully made.
