About Cruz's Lawn & Garden Services

Solares Hill is the high ground of Key West at something like eighteen feet, and from the Meadows the streets tip away toward the water in every direction. Cruz's Lawn & Garden Services works those gentle blocks — mowing the small lawns, edging the brick walks, and then getting down into the beds where the real fussing happens. A garden here is layers: crown-of-thorns and coontie low, croton and ixora behind, a key lime or a frangipani holding the corner, all of it wanting the weeds pulled before they seed. The crew cuts the grass and tends the planting as one job, because on an island lot they are never really separate. At the end, the lawn is even, the bed edges are cut clean, and the color has room to be seen again.
