Victory Gardens

About Victory Gardens

January is the gentlest month in Jupiter: the humidity lifts, the air off the beach carries salt without heat, and a yard finally holds the shape you give it. Victory Gardens tends the small coastal lots near Dubois Park and the lanes running toward the inlet, where sea grape hedges lean inland and hibiscus keeps blooming through winter. The work is mowing and edging, yes, but also the close attention beds want — hand-weeding, cutting a crisp border between mulch and turf, trimming the ixora and the hedge line back into a clean face. Fresh mulch goes down dark against pale shell-and-sand soil, and suddenly every planting reads as deliberate. It is a modest kind of victory, but you can see it from the sidewalk.
