Everyone pictures the ocean side, but Jacksonville Beach keeps a second waterfront — the Intracoastal, where Pablo Creek runs quiet through spartina and the light comes off the marsh flat and silver. Coastal Landscape Management works those west-side yards, where the ground stays damper, the mosquitoes hold on later and the turf grows on a different schedule than it does four blocks from the surf. Mowing height gets set for the soil underfoot, beds get weeded and mulched, hedges get held back from the porch screens. Clippings stay out of the swales, because whatever goes into a swale here ends up in the creek. It is unglamorous, careful work, and the yards show it.
