Younkman’s Bamboo Gardens

About Younkman’s Bamboo Gardens

Bamboo is honest about what Florida is: give it heat and a wet summer and it will build you a green wall while your back is turned. Around Desoto Lakes, where oak hammock and hedgerow do much the same thing, Younkman's Bamboo Gardens keeps the growing in hand, mowing the lawn, edging where turf meets path, trimming hedges and screens back to a clean face and hauling off the cuttings. A screen only works when it is maintained; leave it be and privacy turns to thicket in a single season. Cut, shaped and cleared, a yard here can be shaded, sheltered and still tidy underfoot. Green, contained, and a pleasure to stand in.
