Barto's Lawn Care Service

About Barto's Lawn Care Service

Mornings on Cape Canaveral arrive off the Atlantic with salt already in them, and by seven the ocean breeze is combing the St. Augustine flat. Barto's Lawn Care Service mows a barrier island where nothing grows unsalted — grass that has learned to take wind, sandspurs that have to be argued with, sand forever working its way back up into the turf. The routine is honest and repeating: cut, run the trimmer down the fence lines, edge the drive, blow the walkways so the shell grit doesn't crunch underfoot. Down toward Jetty Park the lots are small and everything sits in plain view of the road and the water, which raises the standard on its own. A finished lawn here reads like a green mat laid neatly between the dunes and the door.
