About Big Jake's Lawn Maintenance LLC

In March the longleaf pines above Cantonment let go all at once, and every roof, truck hood and blade of grass goes gold with pollen. Big Jake's Lawn Maintenance LLC works through that yellow week and all the green ones after it, mowing the wide sandy yards off Highway 29 and the shaded ones down toward Eleven Mile Creek. Centipede and bahia grow their own way in this soil, and the work is knowing when to cut them and how low. There is a particular satisfaction in the last pass — the string trimmer gone quiet, the driveway blown clean, the edge along the walk standing up sharp as a pencil line. By the time the heat stacks up at noon, the yard looks like somebody loves it.
