A Beautiful Yard

About A Beautiful Yard

At Cellon Oak Park, a single live oak spreads wider than most houses, its limbs low enough to touch and hung with moss, and it is a good reminder that in Alachua the shade is part of the yard. A Beautiful Yard works with that shade rather than against it — thinner turf under the canopy, thicker out where the light lands, mowed at a height that suits both. Mowing, edging and string trimming make the weekly rhythm; hedges and bed edges get cut back so the shape of the place shows again. After a cut, the drive and walk are blown clean and the clippings go where they belong. Nothing about it is loud, but a yard that reads as tended is a quiet kind of welcome home.
