About Apgar Turf Farm, Inc.

The land around Smyrna lies flat and sandy, soil that drains fast and grows grass as if it had been asked to. Apgar Turf Farm, Inc. works those fields the way the corn ground nearby gets worked — planted, tended and cut on a schedule — except the harvest here is turf. Cutting starts at first light so the rolls travel cool, stacked and moving out along Route 13 before the heat sets in. Laid the same day, a lawn goes from bare dirt to green between breakfast and supper, the seams knitting shut inside a couple of weeks. Not many kinds of work let you hand somebody a whole finished season at once.
