About Ben and dad works

Milton wakes early, and so does the mowing. Fog lifts off Wagamons Pond in a slow sheet while the spillway keeps up its steady falling sound, and the first pass of the morning leaves a dark track through silver dew. Ben and dad works keeps to lawn care in and around town — mowing, trimming, edging, and the cleanups that follow the seasons. There is real satisfaction in a yard that looks finished before the day turns hot: stripes running true, the line along the front walk cut clean, not a clipping left on the concrete. By the time the rest of town is moving, the grass is already standing up straight in the light.
