Herker

About Herker

Saturday morning on Frankford's Main Street is quiet enough to hear a mower two blocks off, and by ten the whole street smells like cut grass. Herker keeps lawns in this small square of Sussex County — the older houses near the water tower, the newer ones out toward Roxana. The work is weekly through the growing season: mowing, edging along the sidewalk, trimming close to fences and foundations, then a clean pass over the concrete. Fall brings the shade trees down onto the turf and calls for a last cut to carry the lawn into winter. A well-kept yard is a neighborly thing, and a town this size notices.
