By three in the morning a Windsor storm has already buried the flat run of Day Hill Road and every driveway feeding into it. Mighty Hauling is out in that — plowing, opening drives and walks down to pavement, spreading salt and sand across what is left, and coming back through when the wind fills a cut back in. Snow here arrives as almost anything: dry and light off a cold northwest push, or heavy and gray and half rain off the river. Each kind wants a different pass, a different place to stack it, a different amount of patience. The best part of the whole night is a porch light coming on at six over a driveway that is already open.
