Winsted wakes early in a storm. Snow stacks against the brick fronts on Main Street, the Mad River runs black between white banks, and B&D Landscaping Lawn Maintenance LLC is already out with the plow, opening driveways before the alarm clocks go off. Walks come down to bare pavement, steps get sanded, and lot corners are pushed back so the next storm has somewhere to go. By April the same trucks arrive with mowers: weekly cuts, edges trimmed in, beds mulched, and cleanups at both ends of the growing year. Winchester asks for both halves of the calendar, and both get the same early start.
