Steele Brook runs the length of this town, and by late October the maples leaning over it have thrown down everything they had. That is the week the work changes hands at EverGreen Lawn & Landscape: the mowers make their last pass, leaves come off the lawns and out of the bed lines, and the plow gear moves to the front of the shop. Mowing, trimming, edging and seasonal cleanups carry the warm half of the year; plowing, shoveling and salting carry the cold one. Oakville's old mill streets are narrow and the drives off them run short and steep, which asks for a careful hand in either season. Watertown, Oakville and the neighboring towns get both halves of the year from the same crew.
