Storms reach Burrville first, sliding down off the northwest hills before the rest of Torrington has looked up. KDF Tree runs snow work through that north end and across the city — plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks and steps, spreading sand and salt where the cold locks things down. At that elevation the wind rearranges snow after it falls, so a drive opened at nine can want another pass by noon; the answer is simply to come back. There is a particular quiet on the roads once a night's plowing is finished, everything opened, the pavement dark and wet between the banks.
