Up past the Merritt the lots get wider, the stone walls older, and a lawn can run most of an acre before it meets the tree line near the Laurel Reservoir. Greener Acres mows that kind of ground with the wide pass it needs, then goes back for the detail: edging along the drive, trimming at the walls, string work around posts and trunks. Big lawns live or die on feeding and seed, so fertilization and overseeding go down on a plan the grass can actually use. Fall means leaves — a great many of them — and spring means clearing winter's fallen limbs and matted litter out of the turf. Standing at the top of a long field of mown grass with the stripes running away toward the woods is its own reward.
