Four in the morning on the east side of South Windsor, the parking lots are empty and blue and the only thing moving is a plow truck laying the first pass of the day. Commercial and residential snow work is a schedule business — lots plowed and stacked before the first cars arrive, walkways and entries cleared and treated, driveways opened, sand or salt down before anybody tests the surface with a shoe. Snow sits differently on paver walks, steps and patios than on asphalt, and clearing those without chewing the surface is its own careful piece of the job. By the time the first shift arrives, everything looks like nothing happened. That is the intended effect.
