Simsbury keeps an old iron bridge over the Farmington River hung with flower baskets all summer, and the same rail wears a white line across it in January — the town's two moods in one crossing. Both moods make work. Warm months mean mowing, edging, string trimming, mulch and bed work, shrub trimming, and the long cleanups that bookend the growing season. Cold months mean plowing, snowblowing, hand-clearing walks and steps, and salt or sand on the ice that follows a thaw.
