In August the water at Mudge Pond goes glassy by late afternoon and half of Sharon seems to drift toward it. New Images Landscaping LLC spends those afternoons on the lawns of the roads leading out that way — the pond-side places, the hillside lots where a yard is really a clearing held against the woods. Grass in this pocket of the northwest hills comes on hard through a wet June and then slows in the dry weeks, so the cutting height shifts with whatever the sky has been doing. Done well, a lawn out here doesn't look manicured so much as calm: level, uniform, the wild edge kept politely at bay. Then the machine goes quiet and the crickets take the shift.
