About Bates landscaping

Under Rocky Hill there is sandstone, and in the sandstone there are footprints from two hundred million years ago. Aboveground the work is newer and weekly: Bates landscaping mowing, trimming and edging its way through the neighborhoods, clearing beds in spring, hauling leaves in fall. April here smells like wet ground and cut grass at the same time. A yard finished right has a shape to it — the turf even, the borders drawn, nothing left in the street. That is the whole ambition, repeated all season long.
