April on the peninsula is a slow argument between the river and the sun — the Connecticut runs down cold past Ferry Point while the lawns above Saybrook Point green up anyway. That first mow of the year is the one that changes a street: winter's matted thatch comes off, the walks get cut back sharp, and a yard remembers what shape it is. From there the season finds its rhythm — mowing, trimming, tidy borders, and the cleanups that bracket the year at either end. The tide runs in and out of South Cove twice a day whether anyone is watching; a lawn keeps its own schedule too, and the craft is simply meeting it on time. By the Fourth of July, when Main Street fills up and the marsh is loud with birds, the difference shows from the curb.
