Kris' Lawn Care

About Kris' Lawn Care

Some July mornings the fog comes in off Long Island Sound and sits on the yards near Chalker Beach until nine, and the grass holds that damp long after the road has dried. Shoreline lawns grow on sand as much as soil, salted by the wind off Harvey's Beach, and they ask for a steady hand: mowing at the right height, trimming clean around fence posts and bulkheads, edging that keeps a walk looking like a walk. The last pass is the satisfying one, when the stripes line up toward the water and a yard suddenly reads as cared for. Cleanups come around in spring and again in fall, when the oaks let go all at once. It is unhurried work, done in the same salt air the town has always lived in.
