About Wilcox Tree Experts
The big oaks along the Old Lyme shore have taken a century of weather and they show it — a split crotch here, a limb leaning over a roof there — and every autumn the coastal storms come up the Sound to test them. Wilcox Tree Experts reads those trees for a living: consultations and risk assessments, pruning and crown thinning to take out dead, diseased or hazardous branches, cabling and bracing for a limb that needs help staying attached. When a tree has to come down close to the house, a 40-ton crane with a 142-foot boom lifts the wood out over the roof instead of dropping it. There is quieter work as well — deep root fertilization and systemic trunk injections, insect and disease control, selective removal that opens a view toward the Great Island marsh and lets light back into a woodland. After a storm they clear the fallen and hanging limbs, open the blocked driveway, grind the stumps below grade and haul off the brush, and by evening the yard looks like it belongs to somebody again.
