Long before anyone here poured a footing, Newtown was being organized by stone — field walls running through the woods above Lake Zoar in lines nobody has moved in a century. Fairfield Masonry Contractors works in that same stubborn material, in a modern European style: paver patios, walkways and steps, sitting walls and retaining walls, stone veneer laid tight against a plain wall until the house looks like it grew there. Down at the water they build lake retaining walls and boat ramps, and up at the house, pool patios, outdoor fireplaces and chimneys that carry an evening well past sunset. A set of stone steps is a small honest test — it either lands right underfoot every single time or it doesn't — and that is the part worth taking slowly. In winter the same walks and drives get cleared, so the work you paid for in July is still there to walk on in January.
