Stone is the through-line here. The West Branch of the Farmington saws down through the ledge at Satan's Kingdom just below town, and Lapenta Landscaping builds in that same vocabulary — retaining walls from small block up to eight-by-sixteen or set in boulders, patios in concrete paver and bluestone and flagstone, walkways and sidewalks in brick, veneer and all-natural stone, either new-built or torn out and reconstructed from the base up. Before any of that, the ground gets its due: light excavation, rough grading and fine grading, pads prepped for a shed, water persuaded to run away from the house instead of toward it. The green half of the year is weekly mowing and string trimming with beds, walkways and curbs held to a clean edge, spring thatching, fall leaves and perennials cleared, mulch in five colors, pea stone and riprap, and plantings from small perennials to ten-foot trees to a bed of fall mums. Then January turns the crew to zero-tolerance lots and walkways for high-traffic properties and medical offices, pre-salting ahead of the storm and salting again behind it. From New Hartford and Burlington outward, the reward is the part that lasts: a wall still holding its line, a walk that carries you to the door without a wobble.
