Monroe's morning comes up slowly along Fan Hill Road, mist sitting in the low ground until the sun finally clears the ridge, and that is the hour a C&E Landscaping truck is already unloading. The week runs on mowing and weed whacking — the string trimmer taking every fence line, post and tree the mower deck cannot reach — and then edging, which is the small thing that makes the whole yard read as kept: a clean line down the driveway, along the walk, around the front of every bed. Fresh mulch goes into those beds to hold moisture and hold back weeds; leaves and winter debris come out in the spring cleanup and again when the maples along the back roads let go in October. Planting is seasonal and perennial both, color and structure set where they will actually do well. It is physical yard work done without fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides — nothing sprayed, everything cut, raked and carried off. The same crew comes the same day each week, and every visit ends with clippings blown off the drive and the walks so you come home to a clean yard rather than a mess.
