Out toward Hanover the land opens into hayfields and old orchard rows, and by mid-June everything in Lisbon is growing faster than anyone can quite keep up with. Sal's L & L, LLC keeps up with it — mowing on a schedule, trimming around posts and walls, edging walks and beds, clearing the yard down to bare grass in spring and again in fall. Wet Julys along the Shetucket push a lawn hard, then August turns and scorches it, so the cutting height moves with the month. What stays fixed is the finish: square corners, clean lines, nothing shaggy left behind the shed. A Lisbon yard looks its best in the low light after supper, and that is when the week's work shows.
