Some Ledyard land wants to be woods again, and pulling it back is its own kind of work. Spicer's Lawn Care & Landscape Design clears brush, runs forestry mulching through overgrown acreage, takes out stumps, and grades what is left until the ground sheds water the way it should. From there comes the building — hardscaping, excavation, drainage laid to carry runoff away from a foundation, new lawns seeded into soil that has been made ready for them. Lawns already in place get aeration and steady maintenance, so the turf thickens season over season instead of thinning. The routes run through Gales Ferry and Groton, out to Mystic, Stonington and North Stonington, west through Waterford, Niantic, East Lyme and Old Lyme, north to Norwich and Griswold. When storms come, commercial snow plowing and removal take over the calendar.
