At three in the morning the center of Hebron is one streetlight, a white steeple, and the sound of a blade scraping somewhere down the road. Snow's Lawncare & Concrete is out in that hour doing snow removal and plowing, clearing walks and turnarounds so the town can leave on time. Storms cross the Connecticut valley and drop their weight on these eastern hills — wet and heavy in March, dry and blowing in January. Each drive is its own puzzle of pitch, bank and backing room. The reward comes later: the first car of the morning rolling out over bare asphalt.
