David's Plowing

About David's Plowing

Winter arrives as a long white quiet, the kind that settles over every road and drive overnight, and the plowing starts before anyone else is up. David's Plowing works the dark hours before the town wakes, when the only sound for a mile is the blade. Driveways that climb away from the road get pushed back to the pavement, and walkways are opened so the first steps of the morning land on something solid. Salt goes down on the steep pitches where the sun never quite reaches. There is a plain satisfaction in a lane that looks like nobody ever had to fight for it — by the time the light comes up, the day can simply begin.
