Down at Haddam Meadows the Connecticut River spreads out flat and unhurried, and the ground along it has always been ground that gets worked. Barton's Landscaping takes the heavy end of that: excavation and backhoe work, site preparation and grading, trenching for utilities, forestry mulching that chews standing brush down and returns it to the soil right where it stood. Then comes the finish — hydroseeding a raw slope until it greens over, sod where somebody wants color the same day, a stone or paver walkway laid where there had only been mud. Routine mowing and precise edging hold the line week to week, and hazardous or diseased trees come down and get cleaned up properly. Reclaiming an overgrown Haddam acre and handing it back usable is about as good a day's result as this trade offers.
