In Fairfield the tall grass begins at the edge of every yard — along the stone walls up in Greenfield Hill, in the brush behind the houses off Black Rock Turnpike — and that is exactly where Stopa Landscaping LLC goes to work, spraying for ticks at the key times of the season with organic or chemical options. The rest of the calendar reads green: weekly grass cutting, fertilization and seeding, sod laid so a bare yard turns lawn almost overnight. Their landscape designer sets each shrub and flower where it belongs, and their masons finish the picture with a bluestone walkway, a stone wall, driveway pavers, a pool patio, an outdoor fireplace or fire pit. Some yards go a wilder way instead — meadow grass and wildflower gardens that shift week by week and ask very little back. Fences follow, wood or vinyl or aluminum, and holiday planters at the door when the beds go quiet. What gets handed back is a property a family can cross barefoot on a June evening without a second thought.
