When the maples turn along the Aspetuck and leaves start banking against Easton's stone walls, the crews at Pepper's Landscaping & Lawn Service Inc. are already deep into the fall rounds. This is a full-range outdoor operation: weekly mowing and edging through the growing season, dethatching, aeration and seeding, sod and turf installation, mulching and pruning, then leaf removal, gutter cleaning and the spring and fall clean-ups that bracket the year. They build the hard parts too — patios, stone, brick and paver walkways, retaining and sitting walls, steps, fire pits and outdoor fireplaces — and solve the wet ones with French drains, catch basins, dry wells and regrading. Heavy equipment takes on land clearing, brush and stump removal, and site prep for driveways and foundations. Then winter drops over Fairfield County and the plows and blowers roll out, salt on the ice, driveways and lots and sidewalks open again before the day starts. Easton has a way of showing its yards off, and this is work built to be looked at.
