About Green Acres Inc

In late October the oaks above the Pattagansett turn copper, the light comes in low off the Sound, and the lawns on Niantic's shoreline streets begin their slow storing-up for winter — which is exactly when a core aerator earns its keep. Green Acres tends East Lyme yards across the whole turning year: feeding and seeding, slice seeding thin ground back into thickness, testing pH, reading a lawn for crabgrass, grubs and insects and answering what it finds, then renovating in fall so the turf comes back deeper in May. Brush gets cut back where the woods lean in, wildflower plantings get their own patient kind of attention, and when a nor'easter comes up the coast and buries the driveways, the plows go out into the dark ahead of everyone. It is honest, physical work in sandy coastal soil and salt air, and the reward is plain to see — a New London County yard that holds its color right up to the last hard frost.
