In high summer the light stays late over the low meadows near Bride Brook, and a lawn cut that morning still holds its stripes through the long East Lyme evening. The Butterfly and The Bee keeps shoreline yards mowed, trimmed and edged, and handles the cleanups that bookend a growing season. Spring here starts wet and stubborn with sea air; autumn ends all at once when the oaks let go, and both get answered with a rake, a blower and an unhurried afternoon. What makes it worth doing is the small immediate pride of a finished edge along a walkway, straight as a pencil line. East Lyme, Niantic and the towns around them are close enough to know by heart.
