Winter finds East Granby before the sun does. Up on Copper Hill, where Newgate Road passes the old mine works, the cold pools in the hollows and a driveway can drift over by three in the morning. The Exterior Company keeps that ground open, so the day starts on time no matter what came down overnight. The rest of the year it works the same houses from the top down: residential and commercial roofing, roof installation and replacement, repairs after a storm strips shingles, metal roofing, seamless gutters and downspouts hung to move water clear of the foundation, and siding in vinyl, fiber cement, wood or composite. A roofline that sheds a load and a gutter that carries it away are the same job as a plowed drive — keeping the weather on the outside of the house, where it belongs.
