Snow arrives in Clinton off the water — heavy, wet, salted before it lands, packing down hard on a Post Road lot by three in the morning. J&R is out in it with 24-hour snow plowing, and back again in April for the sweeping, the crack filling and the asphalt patching once winter has finished chewing on the pavement. The rest of the year the same trucks carry a different trade entirely: excavation, demolition, backhoe service and York raking, trenching and site work, curtain drains and galleys and storm water management for ground that sits low between the Hammonasset and the Indian River. Then there is the stone — brick pavers, patios, pool decks and driveways, retaining walls, walkways, slate, decorative crushed stone, outdoor kitchens and fire pits, wood-fired brick pizza ovens, fountains and ponds. And the green: lawn and turf care, spring and fall cleanups, leaf vac, sod, seeding, mulch in every color, trees and shrubs and flowers, brush removal and land clearing.
