Cheshire's Main Street is a mile of white clapboard and old maples, and the first snow of the year makes it look like a lithograph. Winter work here is plowing driveways, clearing walks and entryways by hand, and salting or sanding ahead of the school-morning rush that fills the roads by Bartlem Park. Come April the same properties want the other half of the trade — mowing, trimming, edging, mulch, and the cleanups that bookend the growing season. Doing both means seeing the same yards twelve months a year, which is how you learn where the water sits and where the drifts pile. The measure is the same in either season: clean lines, open pavement, and a place that looks looked-after from the street.
