About Orlando Excavations Inc

Snow reaches Chaplin quietly — the Natchaug State Forest takes the first of it, then the open fields along Phoenixville Road go white, and by two in the morning the loaders are already turning. Orlando Excavations Inc. keeps commercial snow removal at the center of its winter: shopping malls, plazas and homeowner developments plowed through the dark, front-end loaders fitted with large snow pushers and blades, trucks carrying industrial sanders and plows, abrasives drawn from the company's own material pit. Crews and equipment mobilize from satellite offices in Bloomfield, so a lot can be scraped, sanded and open before the first car of the day pulls in. The rest of the year the same yard turns to site work — clearing and grubbing, cuts and fills, drainage and water and sewer lines, curbing and retaining walls, roads and parking lots, concrete flatwork, grading and paving. It is unglamorous ground to work, and it is also the ground everything else has to stand on.
