Blue Spade Landscaping works that narrow, generous window: gardens and orchards going in, ornamental trees set where they will read from the house, screening evergreens placed to hand a yard back its privacy, raised beds and trellises and fences framing the whole composition. Then comes the long tending — spring and fall cleanup, mulching, pruning, weeding, watering, and seasonal planting pots designed and kept full into September. Fine gardening rewards patience, and it pays out slowly, one season at a time, in a garden that finally looks like it belongs to the hillside holding it. The territory runs from the Litchfield Hills across into the Berkshires and down through the Hudson Valley.
