About Hillside Landscaping Co.

Early morning in Berlin, and the traprock ridges east of town are still holding the last of the dark while a mower makes its first pass across a wet lawn. Hillside Landscaping Co. works out of this middle of Connecticut — the Mattabesett lowlands, the long shoulders of Lamentation and Ragged Mountain — building patios, walkways, and retaining walls in stone and paver, setting fire pits, laying mulch, planting gardens, and shaping backyard waterfalls, ponds, and streams that carry sound into a yard where there was none before. There is a real pleasure in the finished thing: the crisp edge held against a bed, the wall that sits true, the water finding its channel by afternoon. Their organic lawn care and landscape maintenance programs keep it that way through the growing months, in Berlin, Farmington, Plainville, Southington, West Hartford, and the towns around them. By the time the evening light comes down long across the ridge, the work has already changed how the place feels to stand in.
